6 Strategies to Boost Self-Confidence

Need a self-confidence boost?  Whether you’re giving a presentation, meeting new people, expressing your feelings, or learning a new skill, believing in yourself is key.  Here are 6 things you can do the next time you face a challenging task or situation:

Check Your Mindset:  As Henry Ford said, “Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t, you’re right.”  Shift your thoughts to reflect an “I can” attitude.

Shift Your Body: Your posture can influence what goes on in your mind.  Try standing in a power pose position, like Wonder Woman or Superman, for two minutes to boost your self-confidence.  Learn more about Power Posing from Amy Cuddy in her book Presence, or in her TedTalk.

Watch Your Words: Notice the words you use when speaking about this topic.  Rather than saying “I’m not really good at…” or “I am so nervous about…”, choose statements that cheer you on like “I am such a fast learner” or “This is so exciting!”

Cultivate Courage: Face your fears and step outside your comfort zone so you can grow.  Try EFT Tapping to address what holds you back.

Practice Deliberately: Intentional practice gradually increases skill level and naturally boosts self-confidence.  With repetition, tasks become familiar so you can perform them automatically.

Visualize Success: Imagine yourself doing this difficult thing.  See yourself working through each challenge.  How will you feel when you have completed this task?  Feel that way now.
